What each AI video model's release notes say changed

Kling's notes, read for what image-to-video became

Image-to-video is where Kling's public record starts: Kling 1.5 Pro opened in the API for image-to-video only on 15 November 2024, the standard mode followed on 9 December, and 2.1 split the same task into standard and pro modes in June 2025. Thirty-seven dated notes later the line is at 3.0 Turbo. As of 2026-10-13.

How a still gets into a Kling shotThe line opened with image-to-video alone and then added ways to pin a movement: an end frame, a pair of frames in the pro modes, keyframes lifted from a video, and a performance copied from a recording.Image-to-videoKling 1.5Pro opensin the APIforimage-to-videoonly, 15November2024.One stillAn endframeKling 1.6cangeneratefrom an endframe, 31March 2025.Two endsA pair offrames2.1 takes astart andan endframe inpro mode, 5September2025.A planned moveKeyframesfrom a clipFramespulled froma videoserve asstart andend, 30January2026.A referenceA copiedperformanceMotionControltakes areferenceimage and avideo, 4March 2026.

2What the register holds for image-to-video

Kling's record opens with image-to-video, not with text: Kling 1.5 Pro went into the API on 15 November 2024 for image-to-video only, and the standard mode of the same model opened for it on 9 December. Kling 2.1 arrived on 19 June 2025 in standard and pro modes with a Master version beside them, 2.5 Turbo opened in pro mode for both text-to-video and image-to-video on 20 October 2025 and gained its standard mode on 11 November, Kling 3.0 was fully rolled out on 31 January 2026, Motion Control followed on 4 March, native 4K output in the API on 23 April, and 3.0 Turbo on 17 June at 720p and 1080p. The line's last entry here is an arrival: 3.0 and the O3 models, 4K included, reaching Runway's MCP on 18 September 2026.

Read as a sequence, the entries show a task that started as one mode on one model and ended as a default. Nothing in the register says which version makes a better clip from a photograph; what it holds is the day each version took the task on.

3Where the still enters the record

For anyone searching image-to-video, the entries about frames are the ones to read. Kling 1.6 could generate from an end frame on 31 March 2025. Kling 2.1 took a start and an end frame in pro mode only on 5 September 2025, and 2.5 Turbo's pro mode took both on 17 November. Keyframes pulled from a video could serve as start and end frames from 30 January 2026, and multi-shot videos gained set first and last frames on 7 May 2026. Motion Control, which takes a reference image beside a reference video, reached the API on 22 December 2025, and the 3.0 version of it launched on 4 March 2026.

The pattern is the useful part. A first frame alone is the older arrangement; a pair of frames is where the line went next, and it arrived in the pro modes first. A planner feeding one still into a shot is using the oldest entry on this list, and a planner pinning both ends is using something the register can date to a day.

4What the threads carry for the name

The collection counted Kling at 8,089 posts and 1,318 comment mentions over the window, and 15.4 per cent of the posts read in the subreddit, 2,786 of them. The two posts quoted below are a detection question and a request for a one-to-one motion copy.

The second is the one the notes above touch: copying a movement from a recording is an entry in this line's record, dated twice, once as a launch and once as an API arrival. What the post asks is how to set it up, which is a question for the maker's own documentation rather than for a changelog, and the register does not answer it.

A cell carries that maker's own wording for the point; a page that does not take the point up is written as unstated rather than read as a denial. Order. Alphabetical by maker name.

6What the threads were counted at

Kling, counted from two angles: how much of one subreddit's posts the name holds, and the raw tallies the collection kept for it. The posts below are a detection test and a setup question.

Posts and comment mentions for the name on this page, collected 2026-10-14.

Inclusion rule. Names the collection counted and that this page is about. The tallies come from the same posts, so a post arguing with itself can land in both columns. Order. Descending by posts.

Share of the posts read in one subreddit that name a model family, over the window collected.

7When the other maker's notes answer better

  • Both ends of a shot have to be set — Kling's pro modes take a start and an end frame, dated 5 September and 17 November 2025, which is the arrangement a planned movement needs.
  • The output has to be finished at 4K — Native 4K output is filed twice for this line, once for the API on 23 April 2026 and once for the app the same day, which is as explicit as a note gets.
  • A cheaper mode is enough — 2.5 Turbo's standard mode opened on 11 November 2025, and the register files it as a tier entry rather than leaving a reader to guess when it arrived.
