Which AI video models take a first and a last frame?
Among the notes read: Runway's Gen-3 Alpha from August 2024, Firefly in February 2025, PixVerse and Wan 2.1 in spring, Veo 2 on Vertex AI in June, Midjourney in July, Kling 2.1 and Vidu Q2 in September, Veo 3.1 in October 2025 and Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash in August 2026. Setting both ends of a clip is one of the most repeated additions in the register. It usually arrives in two steps: first the model accepts an image as the opening frame, then as the closing one too. Runway made both steps a week apart in the summer of 2024; Kling went from an end frame on 1.6 in March 2025 to both ends on 2.1 in September.
It often lands on one mode or tier before the others. Kling 2.1 took start and end frames in pro mode only, and Kling 2.5 Turbo's note is also about pro mode. Later notes build on it: a middle keyframe on Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, keyframe controls in Luma's Ray3 Modify, and set frames inside Kling's multi-shot videos in May 2026.
