A snapshot is a release even when the name stays

When a maker moves a model name to a newer build, nothing in a user's request changes, but the output can. OpenAI's January 2026 note moved sora-2 to a December 2025 snapshot and told users who needed the earlier behaviour to call the October one by its dated name. As of 2026-09-25.

Alibaba Cloud publishes dated Wan 2.7 builds the same way. The register counts each as its own entry. For anyone comparing clips made months apart, the snapshot date matters more than the version number.

It also explains a common complaint, that a prompt which worked in spring gives something different in summer. If the maker moved the name in between, the prompt did not change and the model did. The notes are where that shows up, and the register keeps those days so they can be matched against a project's own dates.
