Model snapshots in AI video release notes

A snapshot is a dated, fixed build of a model. A general model name can be moved to point at a newer snapshot while the older one stays callable by its dated name. As of 2026-09-25.

OpenAI moved the sora-2 name to sora-2-2025-12-08 in January 2026 and kept sora-2-2025-10-06 available for anyone who needed the earlier behaviour. Anyone calling plain sora-2 got the newer model without changing a line of code.

Alibaba Cloud lists dated Wan 2.7 text-to-video builds, one from 25 April 2026 and one from 12 June 2026. The register counts each snapshot as an entry, because output can change on the day the name moves.

For anyone who needs repeatable results, the practical step is to call a model by its dated name rather than the moving one, and to note which snapshot produced a clip. The general name is convenient; the dated name is a promise that the behaviour will not shift underneath a project.
